Sister blog to Gothic Gaijin
The purpose of this Blog is to help spread anime/manga love by review of COMPLETED works. Reviews will be based on the following:
Character
Plot
Art
Voice Acting
& Sub. vs. dub
Tid bits and facts about the time period, customs, studio, voice actors, ect., will also be thrown into the mix.
Terms:
Doujinshi (do-jin-she) - it's a type of manga done by a fan of the show
Manga (Man-gaa) - in a nut shell, it's a japanese comic
Hentai - is ADULT only and will not be anywhere on this blog
Eiichi - Means there's a lot of pervy-ness, think Austin Powers and you're close
Mecha - Mecha or Mechanical has developed into anything involving robots, it's almost it's own genera
Otaku (O-tak-U) - this is a term used for the die-hard anime/manga fans.
Seiyuu - is the term for a Japanese voice actor/ess.
Important to Groups/Types/Genre:
Sentai - usually refers to a military like shows, as the term was originaly used in the JP Military
Senshi - Is the word for a soldier or warrios, you'll come across it a lot
Magical Girls - a.k.a mahou shoujo, a.k.a majokko, is well you guessed it, girls with magical powers and is all girl centered. Sailor Moon is the best example.
Shonen - a.k.a shounen, is a genre marketed twords tween and teen boys (ages 10-18). Ie. Dragon Ball.
Shojo - a.k.a shoujo, is geared towards tween and teen girls (10-18). Sailor Moon is, again, an example.
Seinen - This is targeted to the 18+ age group of men in Japan. This is usually for a manga.
Josei - Like Seinen, the target here is women 18+ in age. Also is normally a manga term.
Harem - Yes it is a genre. A guy is surrounded by love interests (3 or more) of the opposite sex. Same sex is not uncommon in harems. 9 out of 10 times the guy is in this situation against his will. Tenchi Muyo is a great example.
Reverse-Harem - The above only for girls. Fruits Basket is the best that comes to mind.
Yaoi - "Boys Love," the gay male aspect of anime. It's both an underline genre, term, and crazed fanbase.
Yuri - "Girls Love," same as above.
Sudios of Note for both Anime and Manga:
(I'll go over them in more detail later)
Studio Ghibli - JP
Aniplex Inc. - formerly Sony Pctures Entertainment (SPE) Visual Works Inc. JP
Bandai Visual Co. - JP

So there is the intro. I'll be starting with Anime from the 90's since it's considered the Golden Age of Anime. List to come soon.
